THE NEW LANDSCAPE
THE NEW LANDSCAPE
As technology changes, so does our notion of place. The Internet has created a consumer-ready environment that folds the planet into a clickable resource, disturbing the relationship between travel and exploration.
The New Landscape is an exhibition by four artists whose work reflects these changes and their effects on the way we explore, experience and understand landscape. Working primarily in photography and video, these artists find new visions of the world in the gaps between expectation and perception.
The New Landscape appropriates the iconographies of the fine art landscape tradition and popular photography to represent the 21st Century experience of place. The possibilities of digital viewing and editing both enhance and subvert the documentary role of photography, and give the image-maker new powers and responsibilities. While embracing the natural awe and wonderment of a passive viewer, these artists also examine their own roles as consumers and intruders in the landscape.
