Responding to the Boston Museum of Science's Youth Climate Change Poll, Heat Field imagines potential ramifications of urban heat island effect:
The increase in temperature in cities compared to surrounding areas due to heat being trapped and amplified by the built environment, resulting in average temperatures that can be 10–15°F higher than surrounding communities.1
To metaphorically address urban heat island effect, Heat Field progresses from a natural environment to a city radiating extreme heat. The environment becomes a (hopefully) exaggerated reality in which steam rises from pavement and buildings. The surfaces become hot enough to boil water and the tar, asphalt, rubber, and even thermometers, begin to melt.
